Many websites put Google Adsense or other forms of advertising directly in their forums. It's often a good idea to put ads directly before or after specific forum posts but it can be hard to write the code to place the ads correctly. Fireboard makes it easy by placing module positions within the forum component. Here's how you can place Adsense ads directly in your Fireboard forums

Fireboard has four module positions you can use:

  1. fb_msg_1 - This position is after the first message of a forum topic.
  2. fb_msg_2 - This position is after the second message of a forum topic.
  3. fb_msg_b - This position will place the ad (or other module) after every single message.
  4. fb_msg_t - This position will place the ad before every single message.

Careful! Your contract with Google Adsense limits you to the number of ads you can place on a single page. If you go over that limit your Adsense account may get banned. Other ads might be ok, but do not place an adsense ad in the fb_msg_b or fb_msg_t positions.

Module Positions In Joomla! 1.0 you will need to create these module positions before you can add modules to them. From the main menu of your Joomla! backend, go to Site -> Template Manager -> Module Positions. You will need to add the four module positions there. Joomla! 1.5 users can skip this step.

Now you will need to  add a module to the position. Go to Modules -> Site Modules and find your ad module. Change its module position to one of the positions you just created. For Joomla! 1.5 you can just type in the module name.

A lot of people get frustrated with Adsense because they don't make much money. It is important to do some research on how to optimize your Google Ads, and there is a lot of information out there. Take a look at this heat map of the best positions for Google Adsense ads on a forum website. The darker orange spots are ad positions that get more clicks.
