Virtual servers and dedicated servers are common hosting plans that will give your web site the hardware it needs to handle high traffic server loads.
Shared Hosting is the standard, cheap hosting plan that most websites use. It's probably the hosting plan you are currently using. It can cost as little as $4 or $5 per month, but the hosting companies pack as many accounts onto each server as possible. If any of these sites is taking up too many resources it will slow down your website as well. If you have implemented all the other performance techniques on this website then you shouldn't have any problems on a shared hosting plan, but if your site is very high traffic it might be time to invest in a better hosting plan. The next step up is a Virtual Private Server (VPS). The hosting company will use virtual server software to split one server into a limited number of virtual servers. You can expect to pay about $50 to $100 per month for a virtual server. You will probably also need to handle all security and software management, something you don't have to worry about with a shared server. This is a middle of the road solution. Dedicated Hosting is basically the same as the VPS, except that you get the entire server to yourself. Your website(s) will get to use all server resources but it will cost you more. Expect to pay at least $100 a month, and keep in mind you'll need to handle all aspects of server management and security. Don't assume you need more expensive hosting until you have completely optimized your website.
