TOPIC: Code appears next to Digg button
#2318
Code appears next to Digg button 4 Months, 2 Weeks ago Karma: 0
Many thanks for the excellent plugin. A small problem. I very occasionally find that the following code appears just to the left of the Digg button. Most of the time it is OK.

'; digg_bgcolor = '#ffffff'; digg_window = 'new'

For example, see this page: manchestertuc.org/upcoming-events/40-man...istory-seminars.html

It spoils the appearance of the page.

Any help appreciated.

I'm not entirely sure. It's possible that you have an apostrophe in your article title, meta description or meta keywords that is breaking the plugin. Let me know if that's the case and I'll see about a fix.

I looked for apostrophes in the Description metadata field and found two single apostrophes used as quotation marks. This was the text in the article metadata description:

The Manchester Labour History Seminars aim to create discussion and debate between lecturers, students and people generally interested in labour history. The first term will follow a theme of 'Music and the Movement'. For more details email shirin.hirsch@postgrad.manchester.ac.uk

I was immediately suspicious about the email address with its @ symbol as a possible culprit. And sure enough when I removed the address, the code adjacent to the Digg button disappeared. I also tried removing the apostrophes, but then started getting intermittent page loading problems. Sometimes the page loaded OK with the Digg button looking normal. But when I refreshed the page, it would take forever to load and the Digg button did not appear. This went on for about five minutes.

Eventually, the page loading problem disappeared--I think it may have been a temporary problem related to the host rather than the plugin.

Thanks for pointing me in the right direction.

Thanks for the info. It sounds like Digg.com was temporarily having loading issues. For now try to keep those quotes out of the titles and meta data, I'll get this fixed in the next version.
